A 2014 amendment to the U.K.'s design rights law applies to designs conceived under the old law, the England and Wales High Court (Patents Court) ruled Aug. 25 in a case involving cabinet makers.
The changes that took effect Oct. 1, 2014 apply to all unregistered designs—even ones conceived before that date—if the infringing acts took place afterward, the court said (Neptune (Europe) Ltd. v. DeVOL Kitchens Ltd., [2017] EWHC 2172, EWHC (Pat) (U.K.), No. HC-2015-000953, 8/25/17).
