Ugg Patent Trial Against Quince Isn’t About Money, Jurors Told

On the first day of a patent trial over shearling boots, Ugg brand owner Deckers Outdoor Corp. told jurors its infringement lawsuit against Quince isn’t about money, but protecting the design of its Ultra Mini Boot.

“Quince sold a boot that looked like it. That’s literally it,” Brent H. Blakely of Blakely Law Group told seven jurors during opening statements in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The Quince and Ugg boots are “nearly identical, if not identical,” he said, holding up the shoes in front of the jury box.
