Ubisoft’s patent claims related to changing the difficulty of a song based on a user’s performance, and this amounts to a patent-ineligible abstract idea, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina said Aug. 9.
Ubisoft sued music-instruction software maker Yousician Oy for infringing U.S. Patent No. 9,839,852. The patent claims asserted against Yousician cover “assessing a user’s performance for improvement and selectively changing the difficulty level of a song based on that performance.”
