Uber Nixes Parts of Two Location-Tracking Patents at Tribunal

Uber Technologies Inc. succeeded in axing parts of two location-tracking patents that its ride-hailing app has been accused of infringing in an ongoing federal lawsuit.

Twelve total claims of LBT IP II LLC’s US Patent Nos. 7,598,855 and 8,531,289 were obvious or taught by previous inventions, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board said in two decisions Wednesday that deemed the claims unpatentable.

LBT sued Uber in 2021 for allegedly infringing four patents, including the ‘855 and ‘289 patents. The rideshare technology company challenged all four patents at the PTAB, but was denied review of US Patent Nos. 7,728,724 and 8,224,355. ...
