Two Nike Patents Nixed in Lululemon Dispute Over Home Gym Tech

Lululemon Athletica Inc.‘s American and Canadian divisions persuaded an administrative tribunal to cancel claims of two Nike Inc. patents covering technology in home gym equipment.

Five claims of US Patent No. 10,188,930 and eight claims of US Patent No. 9,259,615 are unpatentable because they’re obvious in light of prior inventions, according to two decisions issued Tuesday by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. The technology is essential to calculating fitness scores and monitoring a user’s exercise frequency, according to the dispute.
