Twitter Wins as Easyweb’s Messaging Patents Appeal Nixed

Twitter Inc. triumphed over a patent holding company after a federal appeals court May 12 threw out five messaging patents the microblogging service was accused of infringing (Easyweb Innovations, LLC v. Twitter, Inc., Fed. Cir., 16-02066, 5/12/17).

Easyweb Innovations LLC’s five messaging technology patents are ineligible abstract ideas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit ruled. Abstract ideas, natural phenomena and laws of nature can’t be patented, unless an invention contains an inventive concept that takes it beyond those exceptions.
