Twitter Faces Patent Infringement Suit Over Platform Features

Multiple Twitter Inc. features infringe a pair of patents related to creating media content, according to a new lawsuit filed in an Illinois federal court.

Delaware-based Virtual Creative Artists LLC said Twitter infringed US Patent Nos. 9,501,480 and 9,477,665 through the social media platform’s “heart” icon to “like” posts, follower counts, user profile pictures and usernames, and "@" tagging of users.

The company previously sued Meta over similar claims. That case, pending in a Texas federal court, has been stayed as the parties pursue a settlement.

Cause of Action: Patent infringement.
