Trump-It Package Opener Loses Trademark Bid for Evoking Trump

Logos for “Trump-It” package openers—featuring hair resembling President Donald Trump’s—can’t get registered as trademarks because they reference him without his involvement, a trademark tribunal ruled.

ADCO Industries – Technologies LP, a Dallas-based company that makes packaging machinery and systems, argued no “reasonably minded consumers of ordinary intelligence” would presume a connection to the president.

But a trademark that clearly identifies a person without permission can’t be registered, and ADCO acknowledged that its logos referenced Trump as well as his fame, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board said Tuesday.
