Truist Financial, Truliant Settle Trademark Dispute Over Name

Truist Financial Corp., which was created by the merger of BB&T Corp. and SunTrust Banks Inc., settled a trademark dispute with Truliant Federal Credit Union over its name, according to a filing in North Carolina federal court.

The financial institutions’ attorneys reported to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina on Tuesday that the case had been settled. Further details of the deal weren’t immediately available.

Truliant told the court in a complaint last June that Truist’s use of the prefix “Tru” to advertise financial services was likely to cause confusion with its trademarks. Truliant had ...
