An administrative tribunal will examine whether a trio of Motive Drilling Technologies Inc. patents should be invalidated, which could help make or break the company’s counterclaims in an underlying infringement suit.
The Patent Trial and Appeal Board said Friday that it will grant Nabors Drilling Technologies USA Inc.'s request to review Motive’s US Patent Nos. 8,210,283, 9,865,022, and 10,726,506, which cover technology for planning and drilling oil wells.
“We determine that Petitioner has demonstrated a reasonable likelihood of prevailing on at least one of the challenged claims,” the PTAB wrote regarding each of the patents.
