LegalForce Inc.'s lawsuit accusing LegalZoom.com Inc. of trademark infringement can move forward, a federal court said May 13.
LegalForce operates the website Trademarkia.com, which lets users search and monitor trademarks. LegalZoom allegedly bought the domain “LegalZoomTrademarkia.com” and used it to divert traffic from LegalForce’s site.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California rejected LegalZoom’s bid to dismiss the case. U.S. District Judge Maxine M. Chesney said that LegalForce’s complaint plausibly alleges that LegalZoom’s actions created a likelihood of confusion.
