Toyota Seeks Pause in E-Key Vehicle Technology Patent Dispute

Toyota Motor Corp. asked a Texas federal judge to pause proceedings in Emerging Automotive LLC’s latest infringement lawsuit over electronic key systems while an administrative tribunal considers validity challenges to the asserted patents.

The Japanese automaker’s three petitions are pending before the US Patent and Trademark Office, it said in a motion to stay filed Jan. 2 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Toyota said the three patents are “nearly identical” to others Emerging Automotive previously asserted in a 2023 case, which is still pending in the Texas court.
