Touchstream Technologies Inc. accused Vizio Inc. of infringing its video casting patents for playing content on separate devices by creating and selling SmartCast compatible devices and the WatchFree+ smartphone app.
The electronics company had knowledge of the patents because Touchstream contacted Vizio in November 2011 to request a meeting and a month later invited Vizio to its booth at a trade show, according to a complaint filed Oct. 25 in the US District Court for the Central District of California. Touchstream said it made a public announcement in December 2011 that patents were pending on its technology.
