TikTok Hit With Patent Suit Over E-Commerce Shopping Tools

ShopSee Inc. filed a patent infringement suit accusing TikTok Inc. of copying its protected system that helps sellers and advertisers sell products in video content.

TikTok’s system that instructs sellers to create videos containing links for products and services infringes ShopSee’s US Patent No. 11,134,316, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. “Defendant’s success in ecommerce has become so prolific through infringement of the ‘316 patent that the TikTok Shop has been dubbed ‘the new undisputed king of online shopping’ that has ‘built an unstoppable monopoly,’” ShopSee said.
