TikTok Inc. and its parent, ByteDance Ltd., convinced a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office tribunal to review a video syncing patent that is part of their fight with Triller Inc., a rival video-sharing app.
The Patent Trial and Appeal Board agreed to institute review of parts of Triller’s U.S. Patent No. 9,691,429. TikTok argues the patent’s claims are invalid because they would have been obvious or anticipated by prior inventions.
