TikTok Accused by Rival Triller of Patent Infringement

TikTok Inc. and its parent ByteDance Ltd. were sued by the makers of rival app Triller in Texas federal court Wednesday, based on allegations that the popular video-sharing app infringes one of Triller Inc.'s patents.

Triller allows users to create and share short music videos, similarly to TikTok. TikTok is owned by the Beijing-based ByteDance.

Triller’s complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas says that the TikTok app infringes U.S. Patent No. 9,691,429, covering “systems and methods for creating music videos synchronized with an audio track.”
