The Financial Times Sues Chicago’s FinTank Over ‘FT’ Trademark

The Financial Times Ltd. accused FinTank, a Chicago “fintech community,” of intentionally infringing and diluting its “FT” marks in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Illinois federal court.

The U.K.-based newspaper owns the U.S. federal registered trademarks “FT” and “FT LIVE” and uses them in connection with its publications, events, and other business and financial services. FinTank uses its unregistered marks to offer a co-working space in Chicago, networking events, business consulting, and educational conferences in the financial technology (“fintech”) field.
