Texas Patent Attorney Sanctioned for Sharing Netflix Records

A California federal judge sanctioned Texas attorney Bill Ramey for violating a protective order by sharing Netflix Inc.’s confidential information with a litigation funder, but declined to hold him in contempt.

Ramey’s justification for disclosing information with attorneys at his former client’s litigation funder AiPi LLC were “unavailing,” Judge Jon S. Tigar said in an order filed Thursday in the US District of the Northern District of California. The judge said Ramey violated the protective order by sharing the information, including source code, with AiPi and said he would award monetary sanctions to compensate Netflix.
