Texas IP Attorney Referred to California Disciplinary Committee

A California federal judge denied patent attorney Bill Ramey’s requests to temporarily practice in her court, and sent him to a disciplinary committee for potential sanctions over an inaccuracy in his petitions.

Ramey filed multiple pro hac vice applications to represent Cooperative Entertainment Inc. in a patent infringement lawsuit against Alibaba Cloud US LLC, according to an order entered Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. Magistrate Judge Lisa Cisneros said the applications misrepresented the instances when Ramey requested permission to practice in the court.
