Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s (R) office must pay $6.67 million to four former top aides who say they were wrongly fired after they made a criminal complaint against him in 2020.
The four whistleblowers proved liability, damages, and reasonable and necessary attorneys’ fees by a preponderance of the evidence, Judge Catherine Mauzy of Travis County wrote in an order on April 4.
The employees made the report “in good faith” and were terminated “in violation of the Texas Whistleblower Act,” Mauzy said.
The judgment is subject to funding appropriation by the Texas Legislature.
