Tesla Sued by Optis Group Over Royalties on Cellular Standard

Tesla is accused of infringing patents that were previously owned by Ericsson, Panasonic and LG, and relate to the 3GPP LTE cellular standard, according to lawsuit filed Sunday in federal court in Marshall, Texas.

  • PanOptis Patent Management and related companies Optis Wireless and Unwired Planet said they tried to negotiate a license with Tesla and offered to license the patents on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms
  • Tesla said it instead preferred to work with Avanci, a patent pool that handles licensing for a broad group of telecommunications companies, include Optis, Qualcomm and Nokia
