Tesla Moves Patent Case Out of Texas Despite Austin Headquarters

Tesla Inc. won’t have to defend a patent lawsuit targeting its vehicles’ self-driving feature in Waco, Texas, after a federal judge granted the company’s motion to transfer the case to California.

Western District of Texas Judge Alan D. Albright on June 2 confirmed Magistrate Judge Derek Gilliland’s February order granting the Elon Musk-led car company’s request to transfer to the Northern District of California, rejecting Arsus’ bid to overrule the magistrate.

Albright also accepted Gilliland’s October recommendation to deny Tesla’s motion to dismiss the case entirely.
