Teeth Whitening Products Don’t Infringe Patents, Ranir Suit Says

Dental care manufacturer Ranir LLC filed a federal lawsuit seeking judgment that its teeth whitening products don’t infringe competitor CAO Group Inc’s protected peroxide gel compositions.

Ranir approached CAO in 2014 to discuss a polymer for improving teeth whitening technology but later backed out when it realized the method was too different, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the District of Utah. CAO began pursuing patents for treatments similar to Ranir’s methods and started a “harassment campaign” involving Ranir’s customers, the complaint said.
