Taylor Swift Settles Years-Long ‘Shake it Off’ Copyright Case

Taylor Swift settled a years-long copyright battle with songwriters for girl group 3LW over Swift’s 2014 hit song “Shake it Off,” according to a Monday filing in a Los Angeles federal court.

A jury trial was set for mid-January to determine whether Swift’s song, which included the lyrics “players gonna play,” is too similar to 3LW’s 2001 hit song “Playas Gon’ Play.”

The Monday filing didn’t provide details of the settlement, but said both parties would pay their own fees. Attorneys for Swift and the songwriters, Sean Hall and Nathan Butler, didn’t immediately return Bloomberg Law’s request for comment.
