Supreme Court Declines Challenges From Pair of Patent Owners

The US Supreme Court won’t reverse several lower courts that ruled Traxcell Technologies LLC, a patent-owning firm tied to inventor Mark Jefferson Reed, owes $1.5 million in attorneys’ fees to Sprint Communications Co. LP and Verizon Wireless Personal Communications LP.

In February 2023, a judge in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas ordered Traxcell to pay Sprint $942,000 and Verizon $588,000 after determining that it had “urged and re-urged unsupported claims, objections, and arguments” during the course of its patent litigation campaign.
