Subaru Sued Over Patents on Vehicle Sensors, Driver Assistance

Subaru of America Inc. was sued for allegedly infringing six patents covering sensors for Vehicle Dynamics Control, driver assist systems, and other technologies by Vision Works IP Corp.

  • The complaint filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Georgia targeted Subaru’s VDC electronic safety system, which uses sensors to monitor the car’s wheel speed and lateral acceleration to determine whether the car is moving in the intended direction.
  • That system allegedly infringe’s Vision Works’ two patents on sensors measuring absolute acceleration, No. 8,682,558, and lateral acceleration, No. 8,315,769, of a vehicle.
