Starbucks, Patent Entity Agree to Drop Geofencing Patent Case

Starbucks Corp. and the owner of a geofencing patent are dropping their dueling claims in a lawsuit.

The coffee giant and Nostromo LLC filed a joint motion Tuesday to dismiss the suit, which Nostromo filed in June.

Nostromo has sued Starbucks and at least seven other companies since February 2024, accusing them of infringing US Patent No. 8,559,970. Most of those cases settled quickly, but the coffee chain filed a counterclaim for attorneys’ fees.
