Starbucks Accuses Marijuana Retailer of Infringing Trademarks

Starbucks Corp. sued a mobile marijuana retailer operating under the name “Starbuds Flowers,” saying the company infringed the coffee giant’s “highly distinctive” green siren logo.

Starbuds’ marks are “confusingly similar and nearly identical” to its trademarks and are “clearly intended to be a slight variation of the famous and well-known Starbucks marks,” Starbucks said in its complaint filed Friday in the US District for the Southern District of New York.

Starbuds, which uses the logo on a re-purposed food truck, its website, and its products, “clearly trades on the recognition of the extensive consumer recognition of Starbucks,” the filing said. ...
