Spotify Can’t Move Eminem Songs Suit Because of Streaming Reach

Spotify LLC USA can’t move a copyright lawsuit by Eminem’s publisher from Tennessee to New York because its customers allegedly streamed the unlicensed music in the state, a federal court ruled.

Eight Mile Style LLC accused Spotify of allowing Tennessee users to stream hundreds of Eminem’s songs without a license, in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee. The music streaming service wanted to move the case to Manhattan, where it’s headquartered, or have it dismissed. But Eight Mile’s venue choice deserves deference because the Nashville court has jurisdiction, the court said.
