Sony Sues TiVo, Rovi to Head Off PlayStation Video Patent Claims

Sony Corp. sued Rovi Guides Inc. and TiVo Solutions Inc. in California federal court Friday, seeking a ruling that its PlayStation Video service doesn’t infringe Rovi patents.

Sony and Rovi had a patent license agreement starting in 2015 that has since ended. It told the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California that talks for a new license agreement broke down, and that it doesn’t believe it needs a new license because the Rovi patents don’t cover Sony’s current services.
