Sony Accused of ‘Massive’ Piracy of Song Composition Copyrights

Sony Music Entertainment and other record labels underpaid royalties to songwriters and uploaded songs to streaming services without the copyrights to the musical compositions, Ultra International Music Publishing LLC said in a federal lawsuit.

Ultra engaged in an audit and discovered miscalculated payments and additional royalties it was owed, which Sony acknowledged but refused to pay, according to the complaint filed Nov. 29 in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
