Sonos Appealing Google Speaker Suit Patents’ Invalidation

Sonos. Inc. signaled that it’s appealing a California federal judge’s decision that invalidated two smart speaker patents that were the basis of a multimillion-dollar infringement verdict against Google LLC.

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, which has exclusive jurisdiction over patent appeals, docketed Sonos’ case challenging the ruling on Monday.

Judge William Alsup ruled on Oct. 6 that Sonos’ patents are unenforceable because of “an unreasonable and inexcusable delay” in the company’s efforts to protect its claimed inventions.
