Songwriters Keep Streaming Royalty Bump in Rate-Setting Redo

The Copyright Royalty Board restored an increase on the royalty rate to be paid by streamers like Spotify to songwriters after a 2020 remand by the D.C. Circuit, according to a music industry press release.

The royalties ultimately paid for the period of 2018 through 2022 will increase incrementally to 15.1% of streaming revenue, from the past rate of 10.5%, a joint release from the National Music Publishers Association and Nashville Songwriters Association International said. Spotify, Amazon, Google, and Pandora had convinced the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit to kick back the rate increase for further consideration. ...
