SoFi Brings Lawsuit to Invalidate Patent Asserted in C&D Letter

A SoFi Technologies Inc. unit is challenging an upstart patent-licensing company in a Pennsylvania federal court.

Non-practicing entity Carricarte IP Licensing LLC, founded in May, sent demand letters to Social Finance LLC, alleging infringement of US Patent No. 10,949,866, the personal-finance company alleged in a complaint filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. SoFi seeks a declaratory judgment of noninfringement and invalidity of the ‘866 patent, which relates to a “method for collecting and displaying participant feedback about an event in real time.”
