Soccer Team’s ‘Red Wolves’ Trademark Bid Tossed by Utah Judge

A Tennessee professional soccer team’s bid to register “Red Wolves” trademarks over the objection of Arkansas State University doesn’t belong in Utah court, a federal judge ruled.

Utah-based Chattanooga Professional Soccer Management LLC, which owns the United Soccer League’s Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, sued Arkansas State to appeal an administrative tribunal’s refusal to register its trademark. While CPSM has another team and a soccer academy in Utah, neither the school nor impacts of the dispute have significant ties to the state, the US District Court for the District of Utah said Monday.
