Sleep Number Scores Injunction in Biometrics Patent Case

Sleep Number Corp. is entitled to a preliminary injunction against two former consultants, because it has a good chance of proving they filed patent applications for biometrics monitoring technology which rightfully belongs to Sleep Number under their consulting agreements, a federal court in Minnesota said.

Steven Young founded BAM Labs and Carl Hewitt later joined the company. Sleep Number partnered with BAM to develop sleep monitoring technology and eventually acquired the company, renaming it SleepIQ Labs. Young and Hewitt worked for SleepIQ until 2017, when they agreed to continue consulting for the company while pursuing their own venture.
