Sirius XM, SoundExchange Near Settlement in Royalties Lawsuit

A federal court paused SoundExchange Inc.'s $150 million lawsuit against satellite radio provider Sirius XM Radio Inc. after the parties signaled they’re close to settling the case.

Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York granted the joint motion to stay on May 23, pausing the case for 45 days to allow the companies to pursue settlement talks.

SoundExchange, the recording-industry’s congressionally designated collective rights organization, sued Sirius XM in August 2023 in the Eastern District of Virginia, alleging it failed to pay more than $150 million in music royalties. It accused ...
