Singer Chris Brown’s Bid to Escape Infringement Case Shot Down

R&B artist Chris Brown will continue to face a copyright infringement suit claiming he stole part of another song for the chorus of his hit “Pills and Automobiles,” a California judge ruled.

Brandon Saunders, who performs as “Sqooby,” sued Brown, Sony Music Entertainment Inc., and Songs of Universal Inc. in November 2021 claiming that the chorus of Brown’s song—which was featured on his album “Heartbreak on a Full Moon"—uses the same lyrics as Saunders’ song “Wet.” Brown’s song—which was certified triple platinum by The Recording Association of America in October 2021, selling more than 3 million copies—"is simply an interpolated ...
