Siemens, Wabtec Settle Legal Feud on Train Crash-Halting Tech

Siemens and Wabtec, jostling for years over a share of more than $14 billion in mandated safety upgrades to U.S. railroads, have settled a federal antitrust lawsuit, a patent-infringement case and three appeals.

  • Cases center on technology known as positive train control, or PTC, which can automatically stop a train by predicting rail conditions ahead and taking control when needed
  • “We have resolved the litigation pursuant to the terms of a confidential settlement agreement,” said Deia Campanelli, a Wabtec spokeswoman; a Siemens spokeswoman didn’t immediate comment on the resolution
