Shyamalan’s ‘Servant’ Didn’t Copy Filmmaker Script, Jury Says

A jury cleared Apple Inc. and director M. Night Shyamalan of copyright infringement at a trial held last week over the Apple TV+ series “Servant.”

None of the defendants—including the tech giant, executive producer Shyamalan, or other production studios that worked on the show—infringed filmmaker Francesca Gregorini’s screenplay for her 2013 movie “The Truth About Emanuel,” according to the verdict filed Monday in the US District Court for the Central District of California.

The verdict followed Judge Sunshine S. Sykes’ decision earlier this month that Gregorini had a valid copyright registration in her work.
