Shutterstock Can’t Escape Penske Contract, Copyright Claims

Shutterstock Inc. must face all claims in a copyright infringement and breach of contract lawsuit brought by Penske Media Corp., a New York federal court ruled.

Penske adequately alleged that Shutterstock improperly terminated a contract, didn’t pay what it owed, and left up 2,300 Penske-owned images, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said Friday.

The deal had given Shutterstock rights to Penske’s archives and its credentials for Shutterstock photographers shoot various events for Penske in exchange for royalties.
