Shopify Bid to Unmask IP Edge Patent Suit Investors Falls Short

A federal judge in Texas rejected a request from Shopify Inc. to force a patent plaintiff with ties to prolific patent assertion company IP Edge LLC to disclose its funders.

Shopify, an e-commerce platform, was sued for alleged patent infringement by Lower48 IP LLC in September 2022 in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. Lower48 identified a Dallas energy industry company with a similar name as its parent in its filing with the court.
