Shein Infringes Ex-Yahoo Patents Covering Search Tech, Suit Says

Singapore-based fast-fashion retailer Shein’s online search tools infringe five patents previously owned by Yahoo! Inc., according to a new federal lawsuit.

The company’s website prominently displays a search interface that infringes and induces users to infringe R2 Solutions LLC’s patents, said the complaintfiled Tuesday in the US District for the Eastern District of Texas.

R2 said Yahoo! filed for the asserted patents—US Patent Nos. 8,341,157; 7,698,329; 8,209,317; 9,805,097; and 8,527,623—between 2006 and 2009, and developed them while the web service provider invested billions of dollars as a leading search engine.
