Senate Presses Copyright Office on AI Reports, Digital Piracy

US Copyright Office director Shira Perlmutter told a US Senate subcommittee on Wednesday that regulators are struggling to keep up with the rapid rate of artificial intelligence’s development.

Just like Congress, the Copyright office has sought to “be ahead of the curve” in shaping AI-related policy and regulations, Perlmutter told Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.). But her office has found “that’s difficult to do when almost every week there’s some new development being reported in the paper.”
