SeaSpine, NuVasive Fail in Bids to Trim Surgeon’s Patent Suits

NuVasive Inc. and SeaSpine Holdings Corp. each lost a federal judge’s ruling denying most of their requests to dismiss parts of two lawsuits brought by a spinal surgeon and inventor seeking cash compensation for their sales of products that he claims infringe patents related to spinal implants.

Roger P. Jackson, a spinal surgeon from Prairie Village, Kan., sued SeaSpine in December 2020, alleging infringement of eight patents related to spinal implants and systems used to fixate or align a patient’s vertebrae. The case grew to include 12 patents, five of which Jackson had licensed from Alphatec Spine Inc.
