Amazon Scores Win in Patent Suit as Judge Finds Ideas Abstract

Two patents that Amazon.com Inc.'s cloud services is accused of infringing cover nothing more than an abstract idea, an Arizona federal judge found.

Swarm Technology LLC’s U.S. Patent Nos. 9,852,004 and 10,592,275 are directed to the abstract idea of a “scrum board,” a project management technique, and don’t include an inventive concept, Judge Diane Humetewa in the U.S. District Court for District of Arizona said.

“The idea of a scrum board does not become non-abstract when limited to the computer environment,” Humetewa wrote in a Monday order.
