Scrub Daddy Inc. accused a competitor of unfairly imitating the look and feel of the company’s trademarked grinning scrub sponge.
Scrub Daddy said it’s sold millions of smiley-faced polymer sponges and related products since rocketing to fame on the TV reality show “Shark Tank” in 2012, with annual sales that regularly top $100 million. The company accused Smilyeez LLC of trying to hijack its success with the “Smile Moji” sponge, a similarly smirking round scrubber, in a complaint filed Wednesday in US District Court for the District of Maryland.
