Scotch Whisky Makers Drop Suit Against Virginia Distillery

An association of leading Scotch whisky makers have dropped a lawsuit against a Virginia distillery for implying that its liquor is from across the pond, according to an Aug. 15 filing in the District of Delaware.

The Scotch Whisky Association sued Virginia Distillery Co. for false advertising and unfair competition June 8. The use of “Highland” and the spelling of “Whisky” in “Virginia-Highland Whisky” falsely implied that the product was Scotch whisky, the complaint said. Under U.S. law, Scotch whisky can only come from Scotland.
