Samsung Sued Again By Solas Over Display Panel Patents

Fresh from a $62.7 million jury verdict it won against Samsung earlier this month, closely held Solas OLED has filed two new patent-infringement lawsuits against the Korean electronics giant.

  • In one suit, Solas claims Samsung infringes four patents that were originally issued to Casio Computer for organic light-emitting diode technology
    • OLEDs provide higher contrast and can be thinner and more flexible than liquid crystal displays or traditional light-emitting diodes
  • Solas claims active-matrix organic light-emitting diode panels made by Samsung for use in HP and Dell computers, Google phones and Apple iPhones are using the inventions without permission
