Samsung Prevails in Validity Challenges to Two Stylus Patents

The Federal Circuit upheld Samsung Electronics Co.'s successful challenges to claims from a pair of patents it’s accused of infringing covering a light-emiting stylus that works with a user device.

The panel also reversed a tribunal’s decision rejecting Samsung’s challenge to a lone claim from the two Power2B Inc. patents, but it did so over a dissenting vote.

That portion of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s decision “was based on a legally erroneous interpretation of the claim language,” Judge Timothy B. Dyk said in an opinion issued Monday by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
